Craft: Gratitude Chain for Thanksgiving

It’s easy to focus on the turkey and mashed potatoes and other delicious foods, but the heart of Thanksgiving is gratitude. This Gratitude Chain Thanksgiving activity for families and friends is an ideal way to come together and see just how many things there are to be thankful for. Gratitude activities are the ideal focus for the time in between pie and naps! Gather family and friends together to count your blessings and watch the gratitude chain get longer and longer.

Here’s what you need:

Materials:

  • fall colored cardstock, medium weight
  • black marker
  • paper glue (optional)
  • paper glue (optional)

Here’s what you do:

Cut strips of multcolored paper for your Thankful Rings.  Each attendee can write their gratitude items onto the strips and fasten the edges together through the previous link. You can use glue, but I recommend simply stapling the links to avoid fussing with dry time.

If you let the kids work on this over several days, they can add new things for which to be thankful every day.  When they’re finished, hang your garland somewhere that all the sentiments can be read by everyone.  Perhaps they’ll want to make their own Thankful Ring Garland for their celebration!
